Mike: I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and welcome to The Layoff List.

Monday is starting off quiet for US unemployment announcements and is quiet for economic reports, but Tuesday and Wednesday bring the Existing Home Sales and New Home Sales reports, respectively. Few reports, besides employment reports, generate as much media buzz about jobs and the economy as housing reports. Home sales could improve because of still low interest rates, summer buying and less expensive units, but they could decline because of increasing interest rates, fear of buying while prices are still falling, and increasing unemployment allowing fewer to buy homes. I’ll post some additional info on this later.

The following is a great list of unemployment resources that should be read by those affected by unemployment. The list, alas, doesn’t include The Layoff List as a resource, so I had to put a plug in on the comments section. Regardless of that slight, there’s quite a bit of useful information included within the article:

At some point in their life, everyone has to deal with losing a job. The below sites are essential resources for those who need help with dealing with unemployment, getting expert advice, as well as preparing for the search for the next employer.

via 100 tips, tools, and resources-to help you survive without a job.

I’ll post updates and some commentary later this afternoon. Onto the news…………………
