According to Gregg Rosen of the American 99er Union, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) will be reintroducing The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act next week. Part of Mr. Rosen’s statement follows:
Today as promised, I have an update to provide with respect to the reintroduction of The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act. A press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 09, 2011 in Washington, D.C. Rep. Lee and Rep. Scott will be addressing the media. I have also been asked to speak representing the American 99ers Union. They have also asked if we can find some 99ers willing to be there to stand with us, and possibly be available to speak to the press after the announcement and ensuing statements.
So, it’s here and it’s real. I would suggest that we all need to keep working together, now more than ever. I would ask you to please use all of your resources to get the word out.

REINTRODUCTION OF THE EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION ACT IS ON THE WAY….
THE AMERICAN 99ERS UNION WAS CONTACTED BY THE OFFICE OF REP. BARBARA LEE (D-CA9) ON 1/13/11 WITH RESPECT TO THE REINTRODUCTION OF THE EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION ACT. WE ARE NOW WORKING WITH THEM TO ADVANCE OUR SHARED INTEREST IN EXTENDING THESE CRITICAL BENEFITS TO THE 99ER COMMUNITY.
Below is the information we currently have on the Bill:
– This extension will be paid for under The Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008.
– The 14 week extension will be attached to the first tier extension that was created under the Bush Administration. In doing so all 99ers would be included, as there are no individual State “triggers” like those found in the fourth tier extension.
– The Authors of this Bill are now gathering additional supporters in the House and they are developing a strong media plan. The goal is to have everything in order within the next two weeks.
– Per the request of Rep. Lee’s office, The American 99ers Union drafted and sent an official letter of support for this Bill.
– In the interim, the best course of action is to continually take action. Contact your respective House Representatives by phone, fax, e-mail, and visits to their local offices. Identify yourself as a member of The American 99ers Union and request as a constituent, that it is in the best interest of the district they represent to support (and by support we mean vote yes on) any proposed legislation that would extend UI for the longest termed unemployed. Since the Bill has not been officially introduced, this is the best course of action.
The next update should be posted by week’s end.

“Good news!
Gregg (Mr. G) Rosen, co-founder of the American 99ers Union, received a call from Rep. Barbara Lee’s office and was told that the bill (currently known as HR 6556) WILL BE REINTRODUCED next week for sure and there will be a Press Conference in D.C. next Wednesday in which they will announce the re-introduction of the bill, which would provide 14 more weeks of UI compensation to 99ers as an extension of Tier 1.
Gregg has been asked to appear with them as representative of the American 99ers Union and speak at the Press Conference, and they are also asking that a few 99ers be present at the Press Conference.
We need you to help us find a few suitable 99ers who would be willing to appear at the Press Conference in D.C.. The 99ers would not have to speak at the podium as Gregg will be doing, but they might be interviewed (?) by the Press after the Press Conference. So this is an opportunity for a few 99ers in the D.C/Maryland/wherever area to come forward and do their part in helping 99ers get an extension by standing with the Congresspersons at this Press Conference of Rep’s Scott and Lee.
So please, UWAGers, post this around in forums and other places, that we need a few 99ers to represent us next Wednesday the 9th in D.C at this press conference.
The American 99ers Union will also be putting out a Press Release early next week re this Press Conference on Wednesday, to try to ensure the maximum media coverage and interest in this bill.”

It’s obvious that there are still 99er support groups and a few members of Congress that are working to help the millions of 99ers who have exhausted all benefits. It’s important to support these efforts in any way you can. Contact your representatives and ask them to support the legislation that will be offered by Reps. Barbara Lee and Bobby Scott. Media outlets need to be made aware that this event will be taking place so it’s given the airtime it deserves.

Layoffs and plant closing, meanwhile, still impact many cities and towns:
GREENVILLE, Ala. — A textile plant is closing in the south Alabama town of Greenville, leaving 190 people without jobs. via Plant closing leaves 190 without work in south Ala – Florida Wires – MiamiHerald.com.
Officials at CNH said Monday they will close the facility during the first quarter. The plant’s products include compact tractors under the New Holland “Boomer” and Case IH “Farmall” nameplates. WMAZ-TV reports that roughly 100 people work at the plant. via CNH closing Dublin, Ga. tractor assembly factory – BusinessWeek.

This really makes me feel positive again. I know I’m down to food stamps a room where I’m 3 months behind in rent but have an understanding landlord, no money, sending out Resumes, over qualified, 58 years old, make to much money, I know there are people way worse off and can can only pray for them. Hopefully this will get the attention it needs because it’s not going away and the jobs being craaeted aren’t for everone and they won’t hire me for that job because they say I’ll just leave when it gets better. I have a Masters degree and 20+ years experience. Before the Banks destroyed our economy I never collected unemployment. I earned 70K at last job – but now can’t get a $10/hour job. I am about to become a 99er. Congress is giving hundreds of billions to Foreign dictators, Tax breaks to Wealthiest Americans and Corporations but can’t extend unemployment benefits to 99ers? There are not jobs and corporations are sitting on Trillions – AND NOT HIRING. They advertise jobs – but not really hiring until maybe June or whenever…Unemployment benefits need to be given to unemployed until jobs are created in USA. Corporations keep shipping jobs overseas. Boycott foreign made products!! Buy American!

I am 99er and 56 from Toledo, Oh and been unemployed for 3 yrs. I have searched for employment in any kind of field only to be told that they will keep my resume on file. I have also signed up thru temporary agencies only to be told to not call them we will call you. I know I have repeatedly sent my comments out since my unemployment check ran out in November, 2010 and have not had any cash since then and my husband lost his job in March, 2010, but by the grace of god he found a job working 2nd shift. We have had to try get caught up with our bills on top of the economy going up. Especially the gas for our cars and gas for our home other winter bills.We only get maybe 3 months of good weather. My water bill went up to $208.00, because they want to fix our waterlines because they are ancient. Why did they not think about that along time instead of making us pay when we are at lowest with no income. When is our cities and government going to help us? All they want to do is put us off and now they are trying to shut the government down? Why do we have to suffer the mistakes the government does? We should no be held liable for their scr***ups? When are they going to grow up and bring our American country together without being bias against each other? It reminds me where I worked if you gave an opinion you were put aside and told to shutup because the management knew more than we did. That is bull Cr**p that’s why this country is the way it is because nobody wants to listen to each other to comprimise. I will never vote for the president and any other predecessor in office. They are disgrace to our country and do not need to be relected anymore!! The old ones sitting there they need to retire and put individual that have compassion for the poor people and homeless, families that are suffering to keep their children fed and keeping a roof over their head. How can parents find a job when our gas is almost $4.00 and have insurance for your car, then try pay for yourutilities. This America is not what it use to be all they do is give money away and when we need it they scr*** us! What’s up with that! We need help now instead of shutting our government down again and the 99er’s have to wait for them to make a decision on a determination on the legislation. This has been going on to long we need help now! Before they decide to go on their little spring session, they don’t deserve one they resolve these issues and make a plan to help us!!! WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW WHEN THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO SHUT DOWN AND PUT US ASIDE AGAIN. WHY DO DO THE 99 ERS HAVE TO SUFFER THRU THIS SCREWED UP AMERICAN COUNTRY. WE SURE HELP MILLIONS WALL STREET, INSURANCE COMPANIES AND OTHER COUNTRIES. WHY DO WE HAVE TO SUFFER THRU THIS WITH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN WE NEED HELP RIGHT NOW!! I am a 99er and 56 from Toledo OH and have had to listen to our country strategy can’t get sh*****together because they can’t make a reasonable resolotuion on what is going on with the AMERICAN WORLD WHY IS SO DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO CONTEMPLATE. ARE THEY NOT SUPPOSED TO BE OUR LEADERS. TO ME THEY ARE A BUNCH JERKSS. WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THE GRAVE SITUATIONS THAT WE ARE ENCOUNTERING EVERY DAY TO LIVE OUR LIVES. WE HAVE TO PAY OUR BILLS AND WE HAVE TO KEEP TELLING THEM MAYBE OUR GOVERNMENT WILL HELP US BECAUSE WE LOST OUR JOBS WITH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN AFTER WORKING 30 YEARS OR MORE OF OUR LIVES. THAT IS INSULTING TO OUR DEGRATY AND THEN YOU APPLY FOR JOB JUST TO TELL US YOU DON’T HAVE THE SKILLS OR YOUR OVERSKILLED. I WAS IN THE MEDICAL/HMO FIELD AND ALL OUR COMPANIES MERGED AND DOWNSZISED OR FROZE JOBS HIRING AT THE HOSPITALS I WORKED FOR.
