On Monday and Tuesday March 28 and 29, 99ers and 99er advocates will be contacting Speaker Boehner and Rep. Cantor to urge them to quickly pass H.R. 589. This legislation, proposed by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) offers 14 additional weeks of unemployment benefits to those who have exhausted unemployment benefits and are not currently working. With upwards of 4 million 99ers, this is vital legislation that will not only help those long-term unemployed, but it will also help the economy recover from its deepest recession since the Great Depression.

When calling please mention that you are a member of the American 99ers Union!
This isn’t out of ego for us but rather, Rep. Lee wants the A99U to be recognized as a large group with many members and so we must let them know who we are and that we are strong!
ALSO: Please continue to contact your own Congressperson by fax, phone or email and ask him or her to support Representative Barbara Lee’s H.R. 589 which would add a 14 week extension of unemployment insurance compensation to Tier 1 for all unemployed.
Especially if your Rep. is a Democrat ask him or her to please be willing to a) look for FUNDING for this bill by thinking outside the box; and b) be willing to “strike a deal” with Republicans, to give them something they want (a vote perhaps?), in order to get them to vote for this bill which millions need in order to survive because there still are not enough jobs and many of us are being foreclosed on and evicted with nowhere to go!

- 1 million homes were lost to foreclosure in 2010.
- The National Unemployment Rate has remained at 9% or above for 21 consecutive months.
- Defaults on student loans are growing by more than $2,800 dollars per second.
- 147 banks shut their doors in 2010, as a result of a weak economy and soured loans.
- According to projections by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Income tax payments this year will be nearly 13 percent lower than they were in 2008. As a share of the nation’s economy, taxes collected this year will be the lowest since 1950.
With jobs in the business sector and at the Federal and State level declining and/or anemically moving forward, it is clear that we need to invest in America and Americans in order to help our economy back to health. By extending unemployment insurance to the longest-term unemployed, the unemployed can help bring the economy back to health, as consumer spending accounts for 70% of all economic activity. I have been a 99er and also 56.I have not had any income since November, 2010 and my husband lost his job in March of 2010 also. I have had to turn to my family to help us to pay the essentials to keep our home afloat not lose my home of 15 years that I bought from my parents. That was the was the good times when they were able to get all your benefits with decent with a retirement, savings, vacations, raises and bonuses. Now even the union is being screwed whats up with that our state is union run and need to be acknowled also now they are being dismissed by the government. That is not right and we all need to stand together to help each other out!! My husband and I have both worked all our lives since we were 16.We have never missed any payments on our mortgage, utilities, taxes,car/home insurance as well as gas for our cars to keep it going so we can find a job. since we lost our jobs. Sending 1000’s and it feels like millions. WHEN IS OUR GOVERNMENT GOING TO HELP US OUT AND PASS HR 589 TO HELP US ASAP AT LEAST TO HELP US OUT A LITTLE WHICH IS A LITTLE CONSIDERING THERE IS A OUTLOOK THAT WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY JOBS FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS. It seems that Obama is more concerned with Libya than our country that is suffering from poverty NO MIDDLE CLASS. We need the legislation passed HR589 to give a chance to possibly get a little ahead 14 weeks. I want to find a job after working in the medical field for 30 years and to let go because they downsized. I don’t believe that we have to rely on the government to keep us alive and striving after working all our lives. WE DON’T NEED TO BE TREATED THIS WAY WHEN THEY HAVE HELP HELPED WALL STREET AND INSURANCE COMPANIES, AUTO INDUTRIES WHO ARE NOW BRAGGING ABOUT THAT THEY CAN GIVE BONUSES TO THEIR EMPLOYEES THAT IS ONLY TO PASSIFY THEM AND THE UNION GETS SCR**WD WITH HB 5. I am 99er and 56 from Toledo, Oh and been unemployed for 3 yrs. I have searched for employment in any kind of field only to be told that they will keep my resume on file. I have also signed up thru temporary agencies only to be told to not call them we will call you. I know I have repeatedly sent my comments out since my unemployment check ran out in November, 2010 and have not had any cash since then and my husband lost his job in March, 2010, but by the grace of god he found a job working 2nd shift. We have had to try get caught up with our bills on top of the economy going up. Especially the gas for our cars and gas for our home other winter bills.We only get maybe 3 months of good weather. My water bill went up to $208.00, because they want to fix our waterlines because they are ancient. Why did they not think about that along time instead of making us pay when we are at lowest with no income. When is our cities and government going to help us? All they want to do is put us off and now they are trying to shut the government down? Why do we have to suffer the mistakes the government does? We should no be held liable for their scr***ups? When are they going to grow up and bring our American country together without being bias against each other? It reminds me where I worked if you gave an opinion you were put aside and told to shutup because the management knew more than we did. That is bull Cr**p that’s why this country is the way it is because nobody wants to listen to each other to comprimise. I will never vote for the president and any other predecessor in office. They are disgrace to our country and do not need to be relected anymore!! The old ones sitting there they need to retire and put individual that have compassion for the poor people and homeless, families that are suffering to keep their children fed and keeping a roof over their head. How can parents find a job when our gas is almost $4.00 and have insurance for your car, then try pay for yourutilities. This America is not what it use to be all they do is give money away and when we need it they scr*** us! What’s up with that! We need help now instead of shutting our government down again and the 99er’s have to wait for them to make a decision on a determination on the legislation. This has been going on to long we need help now! Before they decide to go on their little spring session, they don’t deserve one they resolve these issues and make a plan to help us!!!
